Fall 2007 Landscape Painting Workshop

From September 24 thru October 3, 2007, I had the pleasure of attending a landscape painting workshop taught by SCOTT CHRISTENSEN in the Teton Valley of eastern Idaho. Scott is one of the finest landscape painters in America today and has an incredible gift for teaching. Needless to say, the experience of painting under his guidance in such magnificent surroundings was incredible.

During the workshop, we painted small 'plein air' studies of truly grand scenery. If you visit Scott's website, you'll be able to see images of many of his wonderful paintings plus information about future workshops he'll be conducting.

My deepest appreciation goes to Scott and his business manager Kristie Grigg for providing such a great learning experience. I feel like my painting has just had a much needed battery charge and oil change!

Oil Painters of America 16th Annual Juried Exhibition

It was a wonderful surprise to learn that the painting of my friend Tony 'Hutch' Hutchinson was selected to be included in the OPA 16th Annual National Juried Exhibition.

Jan and I had the great pleasure of attending the exhibition's opening events at Whistle Pik Galleries in Fredericksburg, Texas. Whistle Pik Galleries is world-class and well worth visiting if you want to see some of the finest art in America. The town of Fredericksburg is a great art destination with many other galleries nearby. The Hill Country of Texas is beautiful with folks so friendly, we didn't want to leave!

The exhibition itself was truly incredible to see. We loved every other artist's work and felt blessed to be included. The OPA board, volunteers and all those associated with the exhibition are to be congratulated for a first-class job. Special thanks to Tim and Pamela Taylor, owners of Whistle Pik Galleries and their staff for hosting this years exhibition.

Visiting a portrait twenty years - to the day - later.

On October 4, 2006, Jan and I had the pleasure of visiting the Bill Nichols ROTC Building on the campus of Auburn University. We were in Auburn to deliver a portrait to a family who lived near the campus. When we returned to Carrollton, I looked up the file I kept for Congressman Nichols portrait and found that it had been exactly twenty years to the day that the building was dedicated and his portait unveiled.

Battalion Commander, Lieutenant Colonel William Shaw, III, and S3/MS III Instructor Major Johnney Matthews were cordial hosts during our visit.

HGTV Visits Our Home and Studio

In late March, 2006, a crew from HIGH NOON ENTERTAINMENT filmed our studio/gallery/loft home for an upcoming segment of REZONED, a popular HGTV program that focuses on remaking older buildings into living (and working) spaces. Here, producer Scott Sarra and Video Director, David Chapiro set up for the next shot in our loft above the gallery. Jan's interior design was definitely the main attraction of the day!

I was excited to see the portrait I did of our kids being photographed - that is until I saw the camera was actually focused on the railing post-topper! Oh well.

David followed me into the studio where he shot from some pretty interesting angles.

The program aired June 20, 2007.

Dedication of the new Brunswick Golden Isles Airport took place August 18, 2005.

During the ceremony, mural size enlargements of six landscapes I painted of the local region were unveiled.

Landscapes given by Georgia Governer Sonny Perdue to the G8 Sea Island Summit Leaders

In June, 2004, ten oil landscapes were given to each Leader attending the G8 Sea Island Summit by Governor Sonny Perdue on behalf of the citizens of Georgia. To the left of Governor Purdue is my friend Mildred Huie Wilcox, who was a major contibutor towards the project.

The ten landscapes depicting the Marshes of Glynn were exhibited at our gallery prior to their presentation. They were painted with the hope that they would provide the attending world leaders with a lasting memory of Georgia's beautiful marshes that divide Sea Island, where the G8 summit took place, from the mainland.
